About the role

The Senior Medical Officer/Staff Specialist or Senior Staff Specialist Geriatric Medicine provides high-quality, cost-effective and patient-centred clinical services within the General and Geriatric Medicine Unit, Community and Oral Health Directorate. Working across a range of inpatient, ambulatory and home-based services, the role supports older people with complex health needs through comprehensive assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and restorative care.

The successful candidate will provide specialist geriatric care across a variety of settings including Geriatric Evaluation and Management, Geriatric Evaluation and Management in the Home (GEMITH), Interim Care, Specialist Dementia Care and ambulatory services. The role also contributes to clinical governance, multidisciplinary team leadership, education, research, quality improvement and advocacy to ensure excellent outcomes for patients and their families.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Provide specialist geriatric medicine services across inpatient, outpatient and home-based care settings, delivering comprehensive assessment and management of older people with complex needs.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, general practitioners and healthcare providers to coordinate high-quality, integrated and patient-centred care.
  • Provide clinical governance, supervision and support to junior medical staff and other healthcare professionals while promoting excellence in clinical practice.
  • Actively contribute to quality improvement, clinical audit, risk management and patient safety initiatives that enhance service delivery and outcomes.
  • Support and undertake teaching, research and professional development activities that advance geriatric medicine and foster future healthcare capability.
