Your new role:

As a Registered Nurse in the Operating Theatre within the Day Surgery and Treatment Unit, you'll provide safe, compassionate and evidence-based care while working collaboratively with nursing, medical and allied health professionals. 

In this role, you will:

  • Provide comprehensive, person-centred nursing care throughout the perioperative journey.
  • Work in Operating Theatre Instrument and Circulating roles, applying your clinical knowledge and skills to support safe patient care.
  • Use critical thinking, clinical judgement and effective communication to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to achieve positive patient outcomes.

About us:

The Day Surgery and Treatment (DSTU) provide access to two (2) operating theatres where operative and other procedures are performed on appropriately identified ambulatory patients.

▪ The surgical procedures include but not limited to urology, ophthalmology, plastics, neurosurgery, transplant (excision of lesions/biopsies), faciomaxillary, upper GI, breast and endocrine and orthopaedics.

▪ Respiratory Services include bronchoscopy, EBUS, cryotherapy biopsies, thoracoscopy, management of pleural effusion and pneumothorax.

▪ Persistent Pain Service utilises three (3) lists per month in the operating theatre

Medical services include infusions, complex endocrine testing, paracentesis and lumbar punches.

Other areas within the Unit include Stage 1 and 2 recovery (3 and 4 bays), Stage 3 recovery (6 chairs) and a treatment room

Radiology pre-procedural and post procedural care is provided to patients undergoing radiology procedures including angiograms, angioplasties, lung liver and renal biopsies, IVC filter retrievals. We accommodate 3-day case patients and prepare one pre-procedure overnight admission as required.
