What you'll do
As the Director Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer (Identified), you will provide strategic leadership and expert advice to support the development, sustainability, and advancement of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce across Queensland Health. You will lead statewide workforce planning, professional, clinical, and cultural governance initiatives, ensuring services and workforce models are responsive to current and future healthcare needs. Working collaboratively with health professionals, multidisciplinary teams, government agencies, peak bodies, education providers, and community stakeholders, you will champion the integration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professions across care settings and drive innovative approaches to service delivery. You will foster a culturally safe, high-performing workforce through leadership, education, research, quality improvement, and professional development initiatives, while building strong partnerships that support workforce growth and improved health outcomes. Additionally, you will oversee governance, performance, and compliance requirements, represent the Office of the Chief Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce Officer at local, state, and national forums, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, culturally responsive health services that improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
The successful person
The essential requirements for this role are:
- An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:
- of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; or
- accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.
- It is mandatory for employees appointed to this role to possess:
- A relevant Bachelor degree (AQF level 7) or higher qualification; and
- Certificate IV or Diploma qualification or higher in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care, health, community/human services, or other field relevant to the role.
- Demonstrated expert knowledge and understanding of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service delivery practices with a proven track record in improving clinical services and establishing robust systems to ensure delivery of safe and reliable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health services, development of professional competency standards and governance frameworks.
- Demonstrated competence in providing high level culturally appropriate, strategic, and effective leadership to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer professions, to meet current and future health service delivery needs.
- Demonstrated high level strategic leadership expertise across multiple health care facilities resulting in improved patient outcomes.
- Proven success in articulating and creating a shared vision, demonstrating courage and commitment in leading change within the service.
