The position of Physiotherapist Advanced Rehabilitation-Musculoskeletal Surveillance will: • Deliver advanced level physiotherapy clinical and consultancy rehabilitation services as part of the interdisciplinary team for children undergoing rehabilitation specialist tertiary health interventions within the state-wide role of the Queensland Paediatric Rehabilitation Service (QPRS), within a tertiary paediatric hospital. • Provide clinical leadership and oversight of physiotherapy rehabilitation to coordinate the delivery of clinical services and to develop and maintain clinical excellence and high standards of care within QPRS rehabilitation and musculoskeletal surveillance programs.

About the Team

The Queensland Paediatric Rehabilitation Service, Children's Health Queensland, is a Specialist Rehabilitation Medicine Service which operates under a statewide model and includes:

  1. Neurorehabilitation Programs
  2. Limb Difference Program
  3. Cerebral Palsy Health (CP Health)
  4. Queensland Cerebral Palsy and Rehabilitation Research Centre

 About the Role

In this role you will coach and support others to deliver for children, young people and families (Leader of Others) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework. Your contribution will include: 

Clinical Practice

  • Independently apply advanced level physiotherapy clinical expertise, specialised techniques and professional judgement to a complex rehabilitation caseload (primarily children under the rehabilitation and QPRS musculoskeletal surveillance programs) and provide clinical direction and advice to support evidence based clinical decision making and quality patient care by less experienced physiotherapists allocated to the service area.
  • Provide professional leadership in the facilitation of research and the systematic pursuit and practical application of valid and reliable evidence to support quality clinical practice and the development and review of treatment protocols and related service procedures that support the continuum of care, high standards of care and optimal clinical outcomes for patients.

Communication / Team Participation

  • Work cooperatively and engage in effective communications with clinical service providers, service managers and clinical team leaders to facilitate early access to paediatric physiotherapy rehabilitation services for children under the rehabilitation and musculoskeletal surveillance programs and support effective service delivery along the continuum of care, appropriate discharge and good clinical outcomes.
  • Provide specialist clinical advice and leadership regarding paediatric physiotherapy rehabilitation, specialist tertiary health interventions and complex interdisciplinary team functioning for children under the rehabilitation and musculoskeletal surveillance programs to clinical service providers, service managers and health care consumers across the state making key contributions to cross-discipline planning, delivery and evaluation of clinical services.

Leadership / Service Improvement

  • Actively pursue further relevant professional development and take a lead role in the development and delivery of relevant competency training and skill development programs targeted at less experienced physiotherapists and assistant staff; physiotherapy student placements; and education programs for other professionals, patients and their families.
  • Work in partnership with the QPRS Management Team to plan, develop, operationalise and coordinate physiotherapy rehabilitation services taking responsibility for day-to-day management of a diverse team including resource allocation, and clinical practice supervision, general people issues, performance appraisal and performance management.
