Senior Staff Specialist/Staff Specialist - General Surgery (Interest in Colorectal Surgery)

Join the Department of Surgery at Rockhampton Hospital as a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist in General Surgery, with an interest in colorectal surgery. You will provide high-quality acute and elective surgical care, contribute to outpatient, inpatient, operating and endoscopy services, and participate in the department’s on-call and outreach programs.
This role also offers the opportunity to provide clinical leadership, supervise and educate surgical trainees and medical staff, and contribute to patient safety, clinical audit, research and service planning across Central Queensland Health.

About us:
Rockhampton Hospital is the largest hospital in Central Queensland and the region's main referral hub. Our Department of Surgery operates across four operating theatres and two procedure rooms, supported by a six-bed Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency Unit. The department is accredited for specialist training and has a strong focus on teaching and research, supporting the delivery of expert surgical care close to home for Central Queenslanders.
About the role:
Working alongside the Director of Surgery, you will help deliver efficient, effective and high-quality General Surgery services, managing a broad range of acute and elective surgical conditions across adult and paediatric patients. You will participate in consultant outpatient and inpatient services, operating and endoscopy services, the after-hours on-call roster and surgical outreach across Central Queensland. You will also provide professional leadership, supervise junior medical staff and surgical trainees, and actively contribute to clinical audit, patient safety, research, education and service planning.
About you:
- Mandatory qualification/s: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Specialist in General Surgery with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority (AHPRA). In general, this will require Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in the speciality of General Surgery.
- Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing Continuing Medical Education (CME) program with the appropriate bodies.
- The appointee will be required to undergo a credentialing process and will be granted appropriate scope of clinical practice. There is a system of review and renewal of credentials and Scope of Clinical Practice for Specialists and Non-specialist Senior Medical Officers on staff. This is reviewed on a three-yearly basis. Your qualifications and certified skills and competencies determine the scope of clinical practice you will be granted and subsequently your position title and salary status.
What we offer:
Total remuneration value of up to $562,473 p.a. is comprised of:
- A salary rate between $265,550 - $281,545 p.a. (L25-L27)
- A salary rate between $222,059 - $257,932 p.a. (L18-L24)
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
