The position of CYMHS Exercise Physiologist will deliver competent evidence-based exercise physiology to children and/or adolescents with severe and complex mental health problems and disorders to optimise their recovery. The role will provide clinical services within a family centred framework as part of the Community CYMHS Program, primarily across the Northside Brisbane multidisciplinary teams.

About the Role

In this role you will deliver quality outcomes for children, young people and families (Leader of Self) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:

  • The delivery of core clinical services with young people in accordance with the Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) guidelines and the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce. You will:
    • Deliver competent and quality evidence-based exercise physiology services in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards. This involves actively supporting and promoting health and wellbeing to the young people of the service;
    • Provision of consultation, assessment and intervention where exercise physiology is indicated for young people who are triaged as having high level needs related to cardiometabolic, lifestyle, functional, contextual or trauma related variables that affect physical or emotional wellbeing;
    • Deliver evidence-based exercise physiology practice inclusive of individual screening, assessment and both individual and group physical activity therapeutic interventions for young people;
    • As experience builds, apply increasingly independent clinical judgement to more complex clinical decision making, under the clinical practice supervision or professional guidance of a more senior clinician;
    • Work flexibly across Community CYMHS teams when required, as advised by the Community CYMHS Program Manager;
    • Contribute to the development of clinical practice procedures and protocols, for both exercise physiology and the multi-disciplinary team, that support the continuum of care.
