About us:
The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) and Perioperative Overnight Stay Unit (POSU) provides the following services within the surgical services of the Cairns Hospital:
- Admission of elective, trauma, and emergency patients on day of surgery.
- Stage two and three recovery for day surgery patients.
- Post operative inpatient surgical care for adults requiring less than 24hr admission.
- Scheduled minor surgical procedures under local anaesthetic.
- Admission and discharge for auxiliary procedures under GA including MRI.
- Admission and discharge of anaesthetic led procedures including allergy testing.

About your role:
In this position you will…..
- Coordinate patient care and patient flow through the admission area, operating theatres, PACU 2 & 3 and POSU
- Work collaboratively with the Nurse Unit Manager to support service development, maintain standards of patient care and promote workforce capability.
- Provide expert clinical care in the Day Surgery Unit and work in collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager to ensure the maintenance of safe standards in patient care.
