About the role
As a Senior Dental Assistant within the School Dental Service (SDS), Metro North Oral Health Services, you will provide high level dental assisting support to eligible patients while contributing to the effective delivery of oral health services across multiple Metro North locations. The role combines clinical responsibilities with leadership and operational functions, with approximately 40-50% of duties involving direct clinical dental assisting.
You will support the management and development of Dental Assistants, coordinate workforce and resource activities, oversee infection control and sterilisation standards, and assist in maintaining the efficient operation of fixed clinics and mobile dental vans. Working closely with Dental Officers, Oral Health Therapists, the Principal Dental Assistant and other key stakeholders, you will help ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality oral healthcare services.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
- Provide advanced chairside assistance to Dentists, Dental Specialists, Dental Prosthetists, Dental and Oral Health Therapists, and Dental Students during a range of oral health procedures.
- Lead, supervise and support a team of Dental Assistants, including performance development, training, workforce coordination and leave management.
- Monitor and coordinate the operation, maintenance and movement of School Dental Service facilities and mobile dental vans to support continuous service delivery.
- Oversee infection control, sterilisation processes, radiography and quality data collection to ensure compliance with relevant standards and policies.
- Manage stock, equipment and clinical resources while working collaboratively with oral health leaders and stakeholders to achieve service and operational objectives.
