What you'll do

As the Principal Applications Specialist, you will lead the design, development and documentation of innovative software solutions that support Queensland Health's digital and data initiatives. You will provide high-level technical expertise and strategic advice across software development, ICT infrastructure, technical operations and emerging technologies, while ensuring compliance with development, security and information management standards. Working closely with stakeholders across Queensland Health, including operational teams, project and architecture offices, and external technology vendors, you will manage and deliver a diverse portfolio of work, taking technical responsibility throughout the software development lifecycle. You will also administer key development and collaboration platforms, including Jira, Confluence and SharePoint, and support cloud-hosted environments to ensure reliable, secure and high-performing solutions. Leveraging your expertise in data engineering, analytics platforms, Oracle technologies and scripting, you will contribute to the development of modern data solutions, with experience in cloud DevOps and Power BI highly regarded.

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

  • Demonstrated high level skills and experience (at least five years' experience in a developer role) in design, development and administration of applications and databases using the Oracle technology stack (or similar) – see ‘Key technologies' above (SFIA: DESN Level 4, PROG Level 5, DBDS Level 5).
  • Demonstrated ability to take technical responsibility and manage resources to plan, estimate and carry out development work in accordance with appropriate standards (SFIA: PEMT Level 4, DLMG Level 5).
  • Demonstrated expertise in establishing processes and developing software to ensure the quality, security, integrity and availability of reporting data sets (SFIA: DATM Level 5).
  • Demonstrated expertise in identification and promotion of new and emerging software technologies and products, methods and techniques and the assessment of their relevance and potential value (SFIA: EMRG Level 5, METL Level 5).
  • Demonstrated expertise in supporting application administration, release deployment and technical support directly to users and other operational Teams (SFIA: ASUP Level 5, RELM Level 5).
