Rockhampton Hospital is entering a significant new chapter in cardiac care. Following major capital investment, construction of our new state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory is complete, alongside an expanded Cardiac Investigation Unit and increased inpatient cardiology capacity. Interventional Cardiology services are commencing shortly.

We are seeking an experienced Interventional Cardiologist to join us at this pivotal stage – with the opportunity to be there from the beginning and help establish, shape and grow the service.

This is more than an opportunity to join an established Cardiology Service. It is an opportunity to combine high-quality clinical practice with genuine influence over how Interventional Cardiology is delivered across Central Queensland.

About us:

Our significant cardiac expansion is now open, bringing together a state-of-the-art Cardiac Hybrid Theatre, expanded Cardiac Investigations Unit and dedicated 12-bed Cardiology Ward. These contemporary facilities are increasing access to specialist cardiac care locally and allowing more Central Queenslanders to receive the investigations, procedures and treatment they need closer to home.

The Cardiac Investigations Unit delivers a broad range of diagnostic services including echocardiography, exercise and dobutamine stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, exercise stress testing, tilt table testing and ambulatory ECG and blood pressure monitoring.

You'll join a growing multidisciplinary team of Cardiac Physiologists, Cardiologists, Nursing, Administration and other health professionals, with opportunities to work across an expanding range of diagnostic and interventional cardiac services, develop advanced skills and contribute to the ongoing growth of cardiac care in Central Queensland.

About the role:

You will:

  • Deliver General and Interventional Cardiology across the Coronary Care Unit, Cardiology Ward, outpatient clinics and Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory.
  • Play an important role in the commencement and establishment of Rockhampton Hospital's new Interventional Cardiology service.
  • Help shape Models of Care, clinical pathways and the future development of interventional capability across the region.
  • Contribute to clinical leadership, governance, quality improvement and service development.
  • Participate in teaching, supervision and professional development of registrars, junior medical staff and Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory staff.
  • Work across a broad regional referral service as Rockhampton Hospital develops as a regional cardiac centre of excellence and major referral hub for Central Queensland.

About you:

We are seeking a Specialist Cardiologist with contemporary Interventional Cardiology experience, including current PCI practice and participation in primary PCI services, together with strong General Cardiology capability.

Importantly, we are looking for someone who wants to contribute beyond the procedural role – a specialist who is excited by the opportunity to help establish a new service from its commencement, develop capability and influence the future of specialist cardiac care for the region.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $564,939 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A salary rate between $266,839 - $282,912 p.a. (L25-L27)
  • A salary rate between $223,136 - $259,187 p.a. (L18-L25)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading

  • A newly completed, purpose-built Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and expanded Cardiac Investigation Unit
  • Professional Development Leave of 3.6 weeks per annum
  • Professional Development Allowance of $22,145 per annum
