Pathology Assistant

Pathology Queensland is looking for a Pathology Assistant to join the team at Caboolture Laboratory, where you’ll play an important role in keeping the laboratory running smoothly and ensuring high-quality pathology services for patients. You’ll be involved in a variety of specimen reception and routine laboratory operations, with opportunities to develop your skills across the pre-analytical workflow. You may also be required to collect blood from inpatients and outpatients, making this a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people as well as being part of a busy laboratory environment.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described above under ‘your key responsibilities', the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated experience & knowledge of the procedures and processes of Specimen Reception.
  • Demonstrated experience & knowledge or the ability to acquire knowledge in the correct procedures of specimen collection/phlebotomy including the application of established policies and guidelines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the importance of standard precautions in dealing with patients and biological specimens.
  • Proven ability to follow instructions and work conscientiously and accurately with minimal supervision after careful instruction.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to communicate effectively with clients, clinical staff and colleagues
  • Positive focus upon patient care within a hospital health care environment.
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement.

Demonstrate data entry skills with the ability to work accurately and give attention to detail.
