About the role

The Staff Specialist or Senior Staff Specialist – Child and Youth Psychiatrist provides specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and clinical leadership within Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS) at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. The role contributes to the delivery of high-quality, integrated and recovery-oriented mental health services for children and adolescents, while supporting the ongoing development of mental health care across Metro North Health.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, providing expert clinical guidance, supervision and education to medical, nursing and allied health staff. The role also supports service planning, research, quality improvement initiatives and the training and development of medical practitioners, helping to ensure safe, effective and contemporary mental health care for young people.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Provide specialist psychiatric assessment and treatment for children and adolescents experiencing mental health disorders.
  • Deliver clinical leadership, supervision and expert advice to multidisciplinary mental health teams.
  • Support the development and implementation of child and adolescent mental health service initiatives and policies.
  • Lead and participate in research, quality improvement and evidence-based practice activities.
  • Provide education, training and professional development for registrars, medical staff and other healthcare professionals.
