About the role

Develop your expertise in a rapidly expanding area of medicine while working within a highly collaborative surgical and medical environment at The Prince Charles Hospital. This 12-month Perioperative Medicine position offers the opportunity to manage complex surgical patients across the full perioperative journey, supporting safer surgery, improved patient outcomes and coordinated multidisciplinary care.

Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, geriatricians and multidisciplinary teams, you will provide specialist medical care to patients before and after surgery, lead perioperative assessments and contribute to the management of complex medical issues that can arise around surgical treatment. The role also offers the opportunity to undertake the ANZCA Perioperative Medicine Qualification, supported by dedicated non-clinical training time and access to ongoing education and professional development opportunities.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Provide high-quality perioperative medical care for adult surgical patients, including preoperative assessment, optimisation and postoperative management.
  • Support high-risk surgical patients through comprehensive assessment, shared decision-making, perioperative risk communication and advance care planning.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurse navigators and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver coordinated and patient-centred care.
  • Contribute to service improvement, clinical audit, education and quality initiatives that enhance perioperative outcomes and patient safety.
  • Participate in teaching, supervision and professional development activities while building advanced expertise in perioperative medicine.
