Multiple positions available! Join us as a Nurse Practitioner Candidate and spend 24 months building the skills, knowledge and confidence to work towards Nurse Practitioner endorsement.

You’ll work across the Emergency Department, caring for patients with everything from the straightforward to the seriously complex — while developing advanced assessment, decision-making and autonomous practice skills.

Be supported every step of the way with mentorship, supervision and professional development, plus plenty of opportunities to lead, teach, improve care and get involved in research and quality improvement.

And the exciting part? Once endorsed, you’ll be part of our growing Emergency NP service, including a 7-day-a-week NP-led fast-track service.

About us:

The Rockhampton Hospital Emergency Department is a 24/7 adult and paediatric ED and the major referral centre for Central and Central West Queensland.

With 14 acute treatment areas, 3 resuscitation bays, Fast Track and a 12-bed Short Stay Unit, there's plenty of variety and plenty of opportunity to make a difference. We see around 145 patients every day, from everyday emergencies to complex trauma and critically unwell patients.

As the region's major referral centre, we work closely with the Royal Flying Doctor Service and care for patients from diverse communities across Central Queensland.

Our team is backed by 24/7 Radiology and Pathology, as well as experienced medical and nursing staff

About the role:

  • Take your nursing career to the next level. As a Nurse Practitioner Candidate, you'll build the expert knowledge, clinical skills and confidence needed for autonomous Nurse Practitioner practice.
  • Every shift brings something different. You'll work across the Emergency Department, caring for patients with a wide range of presentations, acuity and complexity.
  • You won't do it alone. Enjoy structured mentorship, supervision and professional support as you develop your advanced clinical, leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Help shape the future of emergency care. You'll teach, lead, support research and quality improvement, and once endorsed, contribute to the expanding 7-day NP-led Fast Track service.

About you:

  • You're an AHPRA-registered Registered Nurse, currently enrolled in a Master of Nurse Practitioner program and working towards NP endorsement.
  • You bring 4+ years of advanced nursing practice at Clinical Nurse Specialist level or above in a regional or tertiary ED, plus a relevant postgraduate qualification in Emergency or Acute Care.
  • You build strong, culturally respectful relationships, communicate with confidence and compassion, and know how to navigate challenging situations with professionalism and tact.
  • You're curious, innovative and action-oriented, with the confidence to make sound decisions, embrace change, support your team and turn great ideas into action.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $174,208 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $70.92 - $77.00 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
