Senior Staff Specialist/Staff Specialist - General Surgery (Colorectal Surgery)

Bring your colorectal expertise to a role with genuine regional reach. Based at Rockhampton Hospital, CQ Health’s largest hospital and Central Queensland’s major referral hub, you’ll join a specialist surgical service with four theatres, two procedure rooms and a 6-bed ICU/HDU.
In this 6-month temporary role, you’ll manage acute and elective adult and paediatric cases, build on your colorectal interest, contribute to regional outreach and telehealth, and support surgical training, research and service improvement.

Department of Surgery: The Rockhampton Hospital has four operating theatres and two procedure rooms. The operating theatre complex is supported by a 6 bed Intensive Care Unit High Dependency Unit (ICU/HDU). The Department is accredited for specialist training and is heavily involved in teaching and research.
About the role:
- Deliver high-quality general surgery care across acute and elective adult and paediatric conditions, including inpatient, outpatient, operating and endoscopy services, with consideration of subspecialty expertise.
- Support surgical services across CQ Health, contributing to a coordinated, multi-site service through clinical outreach and telehealth clinics across Central Queensland, alongside participation in the on-call roster.
- Provide clinical leadership and supervision, supporting surgical trainees, junior medical staff, students and multidisciplinary teams while contributing to effective day-to-day service management.
- Drive quality, safety and service improvement through clinical audit, research, evidence-based practice, service planning and active participation in relevant committees.
About you:
- Hold specialist qualifications and registration, including MBBS (or equivalent), eligibility for General Surgery specialist registration with AHPRA (generally FRACS) and ongoing CME participation.
- Demonstrate broad general surgery expertise, with significant clinical experience across a range of procedures, a commitment to upper GI endoscopy and desirable subspecialty experience.
- Lead safe, coordinated patient care, with the ability to manage assessment, admission, ongoing treatment, transfer and discharge across multidisciplinary settings.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and communication, supporting collaborative service delivery, effective clinical documentation and high-quality emergency and routine patient care.
What we offer:
Total remuneration value of up to $564,939 p.a. is comprised of:
- A salary rate between $223,136 - $259,187 p.a. (L18 – L24)
- A salary rate between $266,839 - $282,912 p.a. (L25 – L27)
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading
