About your opportunity
The Nurse Manager (NM) Clinical Audit Unit facilitates a proactive approach to improving the provision of best practice care that is person centred, coordinated, safe and effective. The role provides operational leadership for the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of clinical audit activities across the health service and is responsible for monitoring and reporting on variation in clinical practice specific to clinical risk, performance indicators and adverse outcomes. Mapping clinical variation allows Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS) to understand how processes impact patient outcomes, and to apply appropriate evidence-based improvements and clinical practice.
The NM leads the Clinical Audit Unit in undertaking audits and reviews, triangulation of multiple data sources to analyse and identify meaningful variation, emerging risk and improvement opportunities, translating and reporting sometimes complex findings to inform quality improvement, clinical governance and risk management activities. The position works collaboratively with clinicians, managers, and THHS Executive to monitor and strengthen organisational performance, support accreditation requirements, and promotion of evidence-based practice and decision making.
About the department
The Clinical Audit and Healthcare Standards Unit sit within the Clinical Governance Directorate and is responsible for providing independent assurance on the quality, safety and effectiveness of clinical care across the health service. The unit undertakes clinical audits, health record reviews, quality monitoring and reporting activities to evaluate compliance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, regulatory requirements and local THHS policy and procedures. Audit findings are used to identify risks, drive continuous improvement, support accreditation outcomes and provide executives and clinicians with meaningful information to strengthen clinical performance, patient safety and organisational accountability.

We offer attractive remuneration packages and generous leave entitlements.
- Salary range: $5390.40 to $5852.40 p.f. (NG7)
- 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
- 4 weeks annual leave with 17.5% loading

Requirements:
- Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
- Travel: This position may be required to travel to (via small planes or ferry) other facilities located within the THHS, e.g., participate in clinical activities or meetings for planning, quality, performance and education. This may involve day and/or overnight stays. The successful applicant must be able to commit to this requirement.
- Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
