Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community. The Midwifery cadet performs a range of midwifery support activities and on the job skills development while engaged in formal full-time tertiary studies necessary to acquire an entry level (mandatory) qualification for employment.
About the role
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cadetship program offers opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples studying nursing and/or midwifery to consolidate the skills and knowledge developed through their tertiary studies and develop an understanding of the health system and the role of nurses within that system.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with Queensland Health's values:
- Successfully complete (pass) all academic and practical requirements of their tertiary study while employed as a cadet.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in accordance with Schedule 2, Nurses and Midwives (Queensland Health Award) (2015) – Generic Level Statements Nurse Grade 1, 2 or 3 depending on the role, and the Queensland Health and supporting Hospital and Health Service's commitments and values, in achievement of the organisational goals and Domains of Practice.
- Practice in accordance with code of ethics, professional standards and legislation affecting nursing practice by maintaining current knowledge and competence within scope of position.
- Contribute to the effective functioning of the ward/unit in the provision of safe quality care.
