The Office of the Assistant Director General, Services and Infrastructure Planning Branch, Infrastructure Services Division, is on the lookout for a Director to join our newly created Focused Initiatives Team (FIT). We are hiring for a 12-month period, dedicated to delivering high-profile and complex projects for the Department of Education.

Ideal candidates will have proven leadership and management skills and showcase a forward-thinking, constructive attitude towards the development and execution of complex projects. Experience in project planning, effective collaboration, and maintaining strong governance including driving project through Cabinet processes are essential qualities we are seeking.

About the Team

The Focused Initiatives Team (FIT) is a newly created team within Infrastructure Services Division with the goal of driving high profile and complex projects for the Department of Education. This team will utilise their networks and relationships working collaboratively across the Department to implement approved plans, identifying and managing risks.

We are currently recruiting for this Director role plus an AO8 Manager and 2 x AO7 Principal Project Officers. What a great opportunity to lead a collaborative team culture contributing to significant infrastructure initiatives enhancing education in Queensland!

Your Role

Responsibilities include:

  • Undertake high level planning to develop the current packages for implementation with school and early childhood communities across Queensland to modernise and optimise school facilities.
  • Develop and implement frameworks, systems and processes to ensure effective implementation of this major government priority, ensuring consistency, continuity and quality of departmental strategic and operational planning, project and service design, business review, program and project management, reporting, performance and risk management. 
  • Provide expert advice to the Executive Director, Assistant Director General, Deputy Director-General, Director General and Minister concerning overall services, project/program progress and milestones, identifying dependencies between service delivery and/or projects against business benefit outcomes.
  • Lead a range of activities to develop, implement, maintain and review the initiatives designed to support the specific goals and objectives of Infrastructure Services.

About You

The ideal applicant will have the following key attributes:

  • Demonstrated effectiveness undertaking leadership roles in complex and sensitive environments
  • Demonstrated ability to provide accurate and timely advice with consideration of impacts on stakeholders and the Department
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills, in a complex environment where there are multiple and sometimes competing agendas
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and present a range of solutions to complex issues
  • Demonstrated ability to gather information from a range of sources and undertake critical analysis; and demonstrated networking and collaborative skills across a range of stakeholders
  • Evidence of ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues, and stakeholders including communicating clearly, and participating in a team approach to deliver project outcomes.

This role requires a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
