About the role

The North West Hospital Health Service (NWHHS) Hearing Health Program is an Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Health Worker led model providing hearing screening for all children from Prep to Grade four. The team covers North West region including very remote areas Burketown, Camooweal, Dajarra, Doomadgee, Mornington Island.

The aim of the Hearing Health Program is to assess primary aged children for Otitis Media and educate and students and parents on the impact of hearing issues in children. 

Requirements

  • It is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. 
  • Successful completion of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
  • Experience in the area of hearing health and health promotion would be well regarded but not essential.
  • Mandatory requirements are a relevant tertiary degree qualification and appropriate registration/licences.
  • C Class Motor Vehicle Licence.
  • Pre-employment screening will be conducted for the successful applicant, including Criminal History checks.
  • Potential applicants are advised that the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000 requires Queensland Health to seek a ‘working with children check, from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian prior to appointment to this position.
  • This is a VPD risk role and may require evidence of vaccination or immunity to: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • A period of probation may apply.
