Clinical Nurse (Identified) - Public Health

Townsville Public Health Unit are seeking an experienced, client-focused Clinical Nurse who identifies as a First Nations person for their Communicable Disease Control team.
This role is `identified' under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 as having a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be indigenous to the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
This position will help establish models to promote community awareness and care in childhood skin health; and primary and primordial prevention of Group A streptococcus infections and rheumatic fever in First Nations people, including Palm Island.
The position will also have the opportunity work with our Indigenous Immunisation Outreach Service (‘Boots on the Ground’).

The role
The Communicable Disease Control Team in Townsville Public Health Unit is focused on surveillance, prevention and control of important infectious diseases and outbreaks, and ensuring children and adults are vaccinated.
The Identified Position will also work with our Indigenous Immunisation Outreach Service (‘Boots on the Ground'). The team finds and updates immunizations of vulnerable children, often at home. These children have fallen behind or are unvaccinated due to a variety of complex factors and may have lost connection to primary care.
This role will provide an advanced level of contemporary primary health care skills (with minimal supervision), aimed at supporting the health and wellbeing of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, with particular reference to skin health.
This role will advocate for client needs, and provide culturally respectful services by negotiating and consulting with community members, and networking with other professions and service providers.
Generous remuneration package value up to $132,289 p.a.comprising:
- Salary rates between $4138.10 and $4431.10 p.f. (NG6-1)

Role requirements

- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
- Highly Desirable
- Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the position or working towards a relevant qualification.
- Authorisation as an Immunisation Program Nurse to practice under the provisions of the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996.
- Working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, including the Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, Matrix and Power Point.
- Travel: As required this position will travel (on small planes and ferry) and work at other facilities located within the Rural Service Group network to participate in meetings for planning, quality, performance, training and education, or clinical activities, which involves day and/or overnight stays. The successful applicant/s will need to be able to commit to this requirement.
- This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
