The Drug and Alcohol Brief Intervention Team (DABIT) are seeking an experienced and client focused Clinical Nurse for temporary full-time role, commencing 22/07/2025 - 08/09/2025.

The Clinical Nurse - DABIT in the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and Addictions Service, Mental Health Service Group, is responsible for the provision of brief interventions for consumers with substance use disorders, alcohol and other drug problems, presenting to the Townsville University Hospital Emergency Department.

This position will be required to work primarily in TUH ED providing an extended hours service.

About the opportunity:

Position: Clinical Nurse

Vacancy: Fixed Term Temporary full-time, commencing 22/07/2025 - 08/09/2025.

Location: Drug Alcohol Brief Intervention Team, , Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service, Townsville

The Clinical Nurse - DABIT in the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and Addictions Service, Mental Health Service Group, is responsible for the provision of brief interventions for consumers with substance use disorders, alcohol and other drug problems, presenting to the Townsville University Hospital Emergency Department. 

The Clinical Nurse will provide a comprehensive range of drug and alcohol nursing services including triage, screening and brief interventions. The incumbent will be required to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals to develop increasing knowledge and clinical skill in utilising evidence-based assessment and interventions, primarily in the drug and alcohol field.

The position will be required to work with a person-centred and recovery framework, to ensure consumer collaboration and participation in their healthcare. This position will be required to work primarily in TUH ED providing an extended hours service.

Requirements:

  • Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a required qualification for this position.
  • Highly Desirable:
    • Possession of relevant post-registration and/or tertiary qualifications in mental health nursing would be well regarded for a position at this level.
    • Credentialed status with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN) is highly desirable. If not Credentialed with ACMHN – then willingness to undertake and complete the requirements for certification as Credentialed Mental Health Nurse.
    • Appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 2016 would be highly desirable. If not AMHP – then willingness to undertake and complete the requirements for appointment.
  • Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
  • This is a VPD risk role.
