Townsville Hospital and Health Service are seeking a Clinical Midwife (Caseload - Birth Centre) to join the team within the Townsville Birth Centre / Women's and Children's Service Group at the Townsville University Hospital on a Permanent Full-time basis.

The Clinical Midwife - Caseload, Birth Centre (NG6) is the lead carer who provides antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal caseload midwifery care for up to 40 women per year in a freestanding Birth Centre.

  • Salary range: $4138.10 to $4431.10 p.f. (Nurse Grade 6 Band 1)
  • 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options may be available

About your opportunity

Situated in Tropical North Queensland, Townsville HHS provides tertiary, rural and remote health care. Townsville University Hospital (TUH) is the tertiary referral centre for Northern Queensland, supporting all major specialties. This offers a diverse range of experience and opportunities for midwives, and ongoing career opportunities within the HHS. Townsville HHS maternity services are led by a Director of Midwifery, and the HHS provides a supportive environment for midwives to work at the top of their scope of practice. Midwives working at Townsville HHS are supported to provide all aspects of midwifery care including perineal suturing, working within the Extended Practice Authority (EPA) for Midwives, Cervical Ripening Balloon (CRB) insertion, Implanon insertion, and working as Endorsed Midwives.

Requirements:

Mandatory qualifications and proof of registration 

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Midwifery/Diploma of Midwifery or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
  • Highly Desirable: Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the position or working towards a relevant qualification. The ideal candidate will have current or recent (within 12 mths) caseload experience.
  • Demonstrates clinical skills in intravenous cannulation, water immersion in labour and waterbirth, perineal suturing and speculum examination. If not competent in these skills must be willing to undertake the necessary training within six months of commencement.
  • On call/Shift Workers: Appointees will be required work on call and will benefit from an annualised salary. Appointees will be required to work under the Midwifery Model of Care – Continuity of care caseload model, working within the local agreement as per Nursing and Midwifery Award which includes an annualized salary with 35% loading and six (6) weeks recreation leave.
