About the opportunity  

Townsville Renal Services has an exciting opportunity for a clinical nurse to join the team, the successful candidate will be someone who can work autonomously and has excellent communication and leadership skills along with the ability to make clinical decisions.  

The Clinical Nurse provides direct nursing care utilising clinical skills, education and support to patients/clients and nursing staff within the Renal Unit to ensure the provision of best practice and quality patient care.  The Charters Towers dialysis unit is a four-chair satellite unit which offers a six-day service providing high quality care to patients located in this region.

The Townsville Hospital Renal Unit provides acute and chronic renal replacement therapy in a variety of settings, including incentre, satellite and home-based haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.

The Renal Unit staff also provide regular education and outreach services to community groups, other staff and family members involved in caring for people with renal failure within the Townsville Hospital Health Service.

PLEASE NOTE - This is a permanent part-time role, working 56 hours per fortnight.

Charters Towers is located on the Flinders Highway, 136 kilometres west of Townsville, on the country of the Gudjal people. The geography is volcanic basalt mountains separating black soil plains. Aside from camping opportunities, the nearby Burdekin River provides the town with water. Charters Towers Shire population is approximately 12,000 and the township is a regional centre for mining, beef and education, specifically boarding schools catering for remote rural families. Charters Towers Hospital  is a 20 Bed  facility with a 24 hour emergency department and Level 3 CFCS capacity.

  • Base salary range: $56.08 - $60.05  p.h. (NG6-1)
  • 6 weeks annual leave with 14% loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation

Requirements:

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • Highly Desirable:
    • Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
    • A current Adult Life Support certificate.
  • Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role. Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Tuberculosis.
