What your day could look like

As a Recreation Officer, you'll help create a warm, supportive environment where residents feel valued, connected, and empowered in their daily lives. From shaping activities that enrich wellbeing to collaborating with colleagues across care teams, you'll make a genuine impact on residents and the broader community.

Every day, you'll contribute by:

  • Creating uplifting experiences that enhance residents' abilities, interests, and sense of belonging.
  • Working closely with clinical and lifestyle teammates to deliver resident‑centred programs with purpose and compassion.
  • Contributing to behaviour and wellbeing planning that promotes safety, dignity, and positive engagement.
  • Strengthening community connections by supporting group involvement and inclusive social opportunities.

Let's talk about you!

You're someone who brings heart, curiosity, and genuine respect to every interaction. You instinctively see each person's potential and know how to inspire confidence, comfort, and connection. You work with integrity, uphold dignity, and lean into innovation and courage when navigating challenges. Most importantly, you're proud to make a difference in the everyday lives others.

Here's what will help you thrive in this role:

  • Ability to tailor meaningful activities to individual abilities, needs, and preferences.
  • Experience supporting people with cognitive or functional changes in a respectful, person‑centred way.
  • Understanding of aged care standards or willingness to learn quickly.
  • Commitment to safe practice, clear communication, and collaborative teamwork.

You'll stand out from the crowd if you have experience in community engagement, or are completing (or planning to complete) formal lifestyle or diversional therapy training.

Above all, you'll bring the values we live by at Darling Downs Health—compassion, integrity, dignity, innovation, and courage—as you help residents live with purpose and connection.
