    Coastal and Islands Region covers some wonderfully unique and diverse landscape stretching from the world’s largest sand island and very popular World Heritage-listed K’gari (Fraser Island), in the north to the recreational fishing haven of the Southern Bay Islands in the south. The region manages 6 of the 7 recreation areas in Queensland; K’gari (Fraser Island), Mulgumpin (Moreton Island), Bribie Island, Inskip Peninsula, Cooloola and Minjerribah that adjoins Naree Budjong Djara National Park on North Stradbroke Island. It is a region that manages and preserves a number of iconic cultural heritage sites in Queensland such as Fort Lytton and St Helena.

    The region’s parks and forest estate covers 269,213ha, and consists of 7 National Parks, 15 Conservation Parks and two State Forests and Resources Reserves. It may be considered a small region but it is not without large challenges.

    The main purpose of this the position is to support the Visitor Communications team through the implementation of a broad range of communication strategies to promote the values of nature, protected areas, forests and wildlife, to connect people with nature, and to promote conservation ideals and practices to a wide range of people. The role will develop a range of interpretative media to support current Capital Works programs to ensure that visitor experiences to our parks and forests promote safe, informative, enjoyable, and sustainable visits.

    This position is based in Maroochydore or other various locations within SEQ Region as negotiated. However, travel to other locations may be required from time to time. This includes overnight stays.

    Rangers work on a roster basis which may include weekend work.

    Rangers ensure that the Queensland’s national parks, state forests and reserves are protected, accessible and valued by all Queenslanders. Rangers work in partnership with local communities and other stakeholders to contribute to the land management, recreational and conservation outcomes across the protected areas which are managed by DES under the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Recreation Areas Management Act 2006, Marine Parks Act 2004, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975, Forestry Act 1959 and other relevant legislation.

    Rangers may work across five focus areas dependent on operational need, including Pest Management, Fire Management, Estate Management, Visitor Management and Assets and Safety. As such, Rangers may turn their hands to a wide range of jobs that can be safely undertaken by non-tradespersons.

In this role, you will engage with Traditional Owners, neighbours, government organisations and numerous external stakeholders in the ongoing management of the Springvale Station.
