    Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and Partnerships (Northern Region) has an exciting opportunity for a Ranger In Charge to join our Heathlands Ranger Base in the Cape York area. Rangers ensure that the Queensland’s national parks, state forests and reserves are protected, accessible and valued by all Queenslanders. Rangers may work across five focus areas dependent on operational need, including Pest Management, Fire Management, Estate Management, Visitor Management and Assets and Safety. This position is based in Heathlands (refer to the Working in Guide and Location Guide for more information).

  2. Field Officer, Operational Officer 3 (OO3), Environment and Science Temporary Full-time

    The Wet Tropics Management Authority welcomes applications for full-time Operations (3 x OO3) and Monitoring (1 x OO3) Field Officers to work within the Yellow Crazy Ant Eradication Program in Cairns. These are temporary positions to June 2021. The successful applicants will be self-motivated individuals who are enthusiastic and driven to improve the protection and management of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Working within a highly motivated team, the appointees will work in small groups to perform a variety of field operations in relation to yellow crazy ant management. In addition, Monitoring Field Officers conduct research and on-ground ecological survey and monitoring activities in small teams and are responsible for delivery of field data to a high scientific standard.

    The Department of Environment and Science have an exciting opportunity for a Ranger In Charge to join their operations at the Lake Eacham management unit. This position oversees a team of five Rangers while contributing to the delivery of the annual works programs including fire and pest management, operational and visitor infrastructure, and maintenance projects across parts of the World Heritage Wet Tropics Area. This position is based in Lake Eacham, however, travel to other locations may be required from time to time. This includes overnight stays. Rangers work on a roster basis which can include regular weekend work.

    Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services and Partnerships have an exciting opportunity for a OO5 Resource Ranger to join their Northern Cape region coordinating natural resource management projects across all parks within the Cape York Northern areas. This role is responsible for the implementation of key priority projects, including strategic fire plans, pest control and eradication programs, procurement and delivery of related assets. The Resource Ranger undertakes mentoring of Indigenous Rangers from QPWS&P and various stakeholders such as local Land Trusts and affiliates which own and jointly manage our National Parks. This role has a strong focus on working with Traditional Owners, and cultural awareness in conjunction with respectful and appropriate communication is a critical skill required in this role. The location of this position is negotiable for Cairns and / or Coen.

    Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services and Partnerships (QPWS&P) have an exciting opportunity for a Ranger In Charge to join their Innisfail Management unit, overseeing five Rangers contributing to the management and conservation of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area within the wider Innisfail and Tully region. This role coordinates the operations of the Innisfail North Base, leading the planning and development of work programs, and projects to achieve team goals in a safe and timely manner. This dynamic role contributes to the maintenance and natural resource management of the picturesque Misty Mountains wilderness tracks, sections of the stunning Wooroonooran National Park, and other protected area estates in the greater Innisfail area.

    This is an opportunity to join Queensland Parks and Wildlife as a 004 Ranger within the Carnarvon North Work Unit, supporting and delivering the operational work program.

    The Carnarvon North Work Unit is responsible for managing several national parks and state forests including the western sections of Carnarvon National Park, a diverse landscape of sandstone escarpments and dry vine forest communities with significant natural and cultural values. The delivery of projects and outcomes according to annual work programs and the departments’ Key Value Management Framework, with a specific focus on developing and implementing the weed control program, is a key deliverable.

    This position is based in Springsure, however frequent travel to remote parks is required and includes prolonged overnight stays in accommodation ranging from barracks to bush camps.
