    This role’s focus area is general operations in the Bribie Island work unit. Working in sometimes harsh sandy environmental conditions and driving on corrugated tracks is required to be able to service the park.

    Candidates must be physically fit to be able to carry out manual tasks such as lifting and digging. Vessel operations on the Pumicestone Passage to service boat access only camping sites and compliance within this high visitation park are essential.

    This role’s focus is the coordination of day-to-day management of operations on K’gari (Fraser Island) World Heritage Area, Great Sandy National Park including Northern, Dunaburra, Southern & Central Management Units. This position reports to the Manager Great Sandy and works closely with the Technical Support team within Coastal and Islands Region. The person in this role is required to support co-operative management with the Butchulla People as registered native title holders of K’gari. The person in this role is required to engage with a diverse group of stakeholders including commercial tour operators, island township communities, visitors, conservation groups.     This role’s focus area is Natural Resource Management - NRM. This position is directly involved in the coordination of resources including the K’gari, Fraser Island Fire Management Team and K’gari NRM- Wongari Team, to deliver the Region’s and Cooperative Management priorities across natural resource management including the coordination and delivery of the planned burn program and wildfire response, and the Fraser Island Dingo Conservation and Risk Management Strategy.
    This position will provide specialist fire and NRM management direction and supervision of the K’gari, Fraser Island Fire Management Team, NRM team and other operational Management personnel and assisting resources. A key function of this position will be to engage with other departmental staff, key partners including First Nations groups, key stakeholders and partner agencies with regard to fire and NRM management.

    Operational programs include state-wide mapping & monitoring of land cover & land use attributes.

    RSS supports compliance investigations & related monitoring for potentially unauthorised environmental activities & appear as expert witnesses in court. RSS undertakes leading edge research, often in collaboration with universities & other research agencies to improve landscape monitoring programs & develop new applications.

    This includes the Joint Remote Sensing Research Program.

    Each position will be responsible for providing leadership and coordination of one of two separate units on K’gari (Fraser Island) - namely Waddy Point Management Unit and the K’gari Fire Management Team. Both positions will be responsible for working cooperatively and sharing joint decision making with the Butchulla First Nations people to protect K’gari’s cultural values and assets.

The continued custodianship of the Butchulla people is critical to the conservation of nature and culture on this internationally recognised island.
